Hawk Haven Links Page
No vanity plate web page is complete without an obnoxiously
long list of links, half of which have succumbed to link rot and lead only to
innumerable 404 errors. Well, this site is no exception, so here we go...
NOTE: This list isn't terribly organized as of yet. That'll
come later.

Search Engines
- Altavista
- This has always been one of the best search sites on the web and it
still is.
- Ixquick
- This meta-search engine is pretty nice, but I find it most useful
when I'm looking specifically for images. Be forewarned: search results
are not filtered to be family friendly.
- FindSounds.com
- If you can't figure it out by the name, then I'm afraid you're beyond
my help...
Information
- Information
Please
- Good for finding all sorts of general information, whether it be daily
news or who was born on your birthday. The site includes almanacs, a
dictionary, an atlas, and an encyclopedia, among other things.
- Economist.com
- A pretty well balanced news perspective. I especially like that you
can get news from an overseas perspective.
- Thesaurus.com
- Once again, pretty self-explanatory. Also links to Dictionary.com,
where you can access specialized as well as general interest dictionaries.
Useful if you are an under-budgeted school teacher who who has access
to computers but not enough money to buy a classroom set of dictionaries.
Nope. Not bitter at all.
- Bad
Science
- Debunks all sorts of mis-conceptions that we have about everyday science,
including common falacies about meteorology. It also links to Bad
Astronomy.
- Howstuffworks.com
- Where to go when your kids ask "Why?"
Geekishness Part One: Comic Books
Geekishness Part Two: Role-Playing Games
- The Third Edition
- A site dedicated to 3rd Edition D&D. Includes a couple of good gamer-oriented
comic strips.
- Community:
3E
- Another 3rd Edition D&D dedicated site.
- System
Reference Document
- Basically, the 3rd Edition D&D core rules online. It ain't pretty,
but it's free.
- PCGen
- Where you can get a great free character generator for 3rd Edition
D&D. Includes the ability to customize and use third-party rule books.
Miscellaneous
Entertainment
- Scifi.com
Presents
- An abundant supply of online entertainment, including my two favorites...
- Seeing Ear Theatre: Fantastic
audio-stories and radio plays. Not much new has been added recently,
but there's a ton of great stuff in the archives. Be forewarned, most
are at least mildly mature in orientation.
- Edward the
Lesser: Freaking hilarious. I'm serious. You've got to
check it out, kind of the Galaxy Quest of Lord of the Rings.
Fonts
- Some great sites if you're looking for a slick replacement for Times
New Roman or Helvetica Narrow.
Hot Peppers
- I love my peppers, and my peppers love me...
Palm OS
- I never leave home without it, and here's where I get most of the software
that's on it...
Religion
- If you're interested in doing a bit of religious research...
