Introduction

"... though it is a source of dismay for the shrinking majority, "youth" is rapidly becoming the "dominant," the "official" culture. That we now need to take "them" seriously hardly seems worth arguing anymore. But what comprises "their" culture? Do "they" even have a "culture"? And how can we begin to talk about it?"

Sailor Moon is one of the most widely viewed children's/teen's program in North America right now. I don't know of anyone under the age of 25 who hasn't at least heard of the show. Because it is so well loved by young children and teens, it is particularly interesting because it certainly has the power to influence many of today's youth. In this project, we will look at Sailor Moon in order to determine what kinds of influence the show could have on young minds. We will look at images of beauty, bloodtypes and their supposed relationship to personality traits, homosexuality in Sailor Moon, the roles of men and women in Sailor Moon, romance, and diversity in Sailor Moon.
We went about our project by interviewing people we knew and people we randomly chose from internet homepages and guestbooks. What we have dicussed in this paper are the responses we obtained through the interviews and what we have observed from watching the show and reading about it over the internet.
