Love from Afar

by Donald Calhoun

Time stood still; a turtle in it's shell.
It was alone and isolated;
the tip of a needle drowned in the expanses of space
And yet, with all of this time to think;
my metaphor useless and inappropriate to describe it,
I still don't know what I met her for.

As our eyes locked, I could tell she felt it too.
We walked together,
talked of lying in each other's arms,
and understood each other,
and grew old together.
We became the best of friends and reflections,
each of a better version of ourselves.

Then I blinked.

She and the world disappeared from my sight.
When the light had returned, my head was turned.

And Time stands still as still.
She's only now leaving my vision.
And Time stands still as still.
