This is one of my all-time favourite shots, taken from the Bee Hives, high above Lake Louise Alberta. Here Brian and I are taking in the view while Greg takes the photo.

Johnston's Canyon, just north of Banff, is one of the most easily accessible and beautiful locations in the Canadian Rockies. First "discovered" by my brother and sister-in-law, it has become one of my family's favourite destinations.
One of the wonderful and rewarding things about teaching is that you can take students from a level of having no experience in a field, and take them to a level where they have a very high degree of expertise. Here one of my grade 8 classes in Gull Lake is enjoying the culmination of a unit I taught on winter survival and outdoor education. | ![]() |

Here, Greg, Lee and Alison pose with me for a classic waterfall photo on one of the more memorable trips we travelled on. This was shortly before our creek-crossing incident which nearly saw us lose one of group. | ![]() |

I always return to the mountains. One of my most memorable trips was a solo cycling trip as I cycled from Banff to Jasper.
On my solo cycling trip, I stopped in Banff and rode around town a fair amount. As I cycled up and around the Lake Minewanka water reservoir, I happened upon this construction site. I took a number of photos of the reservoir, the water pipe systems and the power plant down below. | ![]() |

I love the mountains, but I learned on the prairies. This is a scenic from Saskairie, an outdoor education facility near Kenosee Lake.
This was the second of two passes that I undertook on my solo cycling trip. When asked by a bus driver at the view point, I declined a ride to the top, preferring instead to complete the entire thing on my own. | ![]() |

Decisions, decisions ... it was here that a lot of my more important decisions were made. It was after an incredibly long and difficult day of cycling. Two mountain passes and 150 km later I sat in this location thinking about what I had accomplished and what I still wanted to accomplish in my life. |
This has been a photo-journal that I have assembled through the years on my many outdoor experiences
