Designed and taught various EFL classes to Japanese college students. The classes include freshman and sophomore English composition, TOEFL preparation, listening, and speaking. The classes were conducted exclusively   in English.
College Level ESL Teacher - Senzoku Gakuen Junior College Summer Intensive Program; Senzoku Gakuen Junior College Bridge Program, Educational Consulting International, Aptos, California (ECI) (August 1998; March to June 1999)

Co-designed curriculum and taught English grammar, reading, listening   and TOEFL preparation to Japanese students. The class was conducted primarily   in English.
ESL Teacher - Senzoku Gakuen Junior High Summer Intensive Program, ECI (July 1998 to August 1998)
Designed a content based syllabus on endangered species and computer   skills.
   Taught basic computer skills using Microsoft Word and Netscape.
   Designed a web site using AOLPress on endangered species with students.

JAPANESE TEACHING EXPERIENCE
Japanese Teacher - Monterey Institute Custom Language Service, Monterey, California - (June 1997 to July, 1997; March 1998)
Taught Japanese to advanced level American persons. The class was conducted   primarily in Japanese.
   Created an original syllabus based on needs analysis with an emphasis on   speech acts such as greeting, requesting and rejecting in business and   travel context.

TRANSLATION EXPERIENCE

Served as a translator for web-based content lessons.
   Supervised lessons to target Japanese speaking population.
   Created "One Point Lesson" for each lesson in Japanese.

Served as a bilingual counsellor for long term students.
   Supervised conversation partners who helped students learn through various   activities.

Organized cross-cultural activities and opportunities for the ESL students   from Japan to practice their English in a summer intensive ESL program.  
   Served as a cultural and language liaison for the students and their host   families.

PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE
Curriculum Design - Shanghai Tandem Software Systems, Shanghai, China (May 1997)
Helped to design a language and cultural training curriculum for Chinese   engineers working in US companies as subcontractors. Conducted extensive   and detailed needs analysis using e-mail questionnaires, checklists and   interviews not only with the Chinese engineers in US and Shanghai, but   also with American managers who work with the previous students.
Test of Sociolinguistic Competency for Japanese Speakers of English - Project for MIIS Language Testing Course (May 1997)
Created and piloted a diagnostic test which measures the ability to   use English interpersonally and appropriately in various context, such   as apologizing, accepting apologies or expressing gratitude. Performed   statistical item analyses, including item difficulty, item discrimination,   split half reliability, and inter-rater reliability.
