The current situation of improvised children and adolescents in Brazil, and in other countries of Latin America, merits a meaningful response. Growing number of boys and girls live on the street where they are abandoned to daily contact with drugs and delinquency, prey to adults who exploit them for illegal activities.
The Associacao de Apoio as Meninas e Meninos da Regiao Se
(Association in Support of Girls and Boys of the Se Region)
offers assistance to these young people so that they can see themselves as citizens,
empowered by rights and duties.
The Project In its relationships with these young people the Associacao de Apoio priories: Building positive inter-personal relationships/ the right to a healthy family life/ the right to education, health care, housing/ the right to play and to dream/ the right to speak their minds. This project is brought to life by: Human Rights The Center for the Defense the Rights of Children and Adolescents is dedicated to those children who live in social or personal risk. We offer these children and their families social, legal and psychological, assistance. Art Workshop Workshops are provided in art theatre, video and photography, handicrafts and educational games. These activities are offered as an alternative to the use of drugs and life on the street, as well as being a means of developing self-teem ad social skills. The Eat Well Project The food prepared at Bem Comer is offered to the young people who participate in the workshops, to paper recycling gatherers and to the people of the informal workforce. In a second stage of this project, the space will be used for cooking workshop for the youth with a view to their entering into this field as professionals. The Farm in Embu The Associacao de Apoio intends to build the Embu project on a farm located near Embu, a small town just outside of Sao Paulo. This project will be priorize street children and adolescents who use drugs, providing a place to live where they can build their personal life project. The therapeutic work will in a natural setting. These activities will be aimed at facilitating moving from a past on the streets to a true citizen. Education on the Street As part of the bonding process with these children and adolescents, educators provide learning activities each day. In this way they can be reinserted in their families or other programs that exist in the city. The most important part is that they are offered a chance to take part in activities different from the violence they encountered on the streets.
