This is the obligatory "About Me" page. In short, I'm Andy Farke, a Presidential Scholar from Armour, South Dakota. I live on a farm several miles outside of town with my parents and five brothers and sisters. My dad works for Charles Mix Electric Cooperative, while my mom falls into the category of "domestic engineer." Our ground is all rented out to the neighbors, so our agricultural pursuits are limited to alfalfa.
I graduated in May 1999 from Armour High School, a public school of 85 people. There were 16 in my graduating class--not terribly big, but not unusual for South Dakota, either.
My interests include paleontology, computers and hanging out with friends. I've published several articles and papers on my research (see my other web page, The Torosaurus Home Page, for more on the scientific side of my life). I'm also involved in community activities, including a local band and my job at The Armour Chronicle. My tastes in music are far ranging, from classical to swing to 70's rock (as Mindy and Sarah found out).
Currently, I'm a geology/paleontology major at South Dakota School of Mines and Technology.
I've included a variety of pictures, particularly of my house and backyard. These are mainly to dispel some stereotypes about South Dakota. We are a very modern state, having had electricity for nearly six years now. But seriously. . .it's a great place to live (or at least visit).
I hope you've enjoyed looking at this web page. If you have any questions or comments, please e-mail me at andyfarke@hotmail.com.
That's me at right, with several of my dinosaur fossils. | ![]() |
A view of my yard, looking north. From left are the machine shed, garage and house. The left half of the house was built in 1906, and the right half in 1911. | |
Looking east from my backyard. Nothing in particular here, just (from front) grass, wheat, corn and a slough. This picture was taken July 4, 1999, so most everything is still pretty green (except the wheat). |
Disclaimer (mainly for the benefit of Mindy)--No, I don't talk just like the people in the movie Fargo. I live over 250 miles from there. Besides, Fargo is in North Dakota, not South Dakota. I will admit that I do say my O's a little funny. So does everyone else here, though. . .
