It's National Library Week!
And to Celebrate ...
...You're Invited To Attend
Our
Annual Open House April 19th from 1-3pm.
It’s National Library Week again, a time to celebrate the contributions of libraries, librarians and library workers in communities nationwide - and the perfect time to discover how worlds connect @ your library. In today’s economic climate, libraries are more important than ever as they provide free, accessible entertainment and enrichment for all ages. It is the one place you can go to get help with a resume, learn new job skills, connect to the Internet or just curl up with your favorite book-all for free! You can do all this and more at the Commerce Public Library.
The Commerce Public Library is celebrating National Library Week in several different ways. For the younger children, coloring pages of library related activities will be available for young artists to complete. The pages will then be put on display in the library for the remainder of the month. Throughout this week fines will be forgiven for any materials brought in overdue including books, books on tape, movies, CDs, and DVDs. The week’s activities will end on Sunday, April 19th with the Annual Friends of the Commerce Public Library Open House from 1-3pm. Everyone is invited to attend. As the yearly kickoff for our membership drive, it provides a great opportunity to support your local library. This year, several of the library’s recent board members will be honored for their years of service and dedication to the library. Otha Spencer, Wyman Williams, Mary Miller, and Elsie McKee will be the guests of honor. Also, a slideshow depicting the growth of downtown Commerce throughout the decades will be presented by local history librarian, Cheryl Westhafer. Refreshments will be served.
What can you discover at the Commerce Public Library? National Library week is the perfect time to find out. Worlds connect @ your library!

Utilizing a much appreciated offer from the university, library board members and concerned citizens have been meeting to formulate a strategic plan for the future of the library with the guidance of Mr. Randy McBroom, assistant to Dr. McFarland for planning and institutional effectiveness. Nearing the end of the first phase of this process, the library now has a more concrete idea on where the library is headed in the next few years and how to get there. More information on the library's future goals will be available as the planning progresses.
