Nastrander's Utah Grand Tour
April 2006

Nastrander at Druid Arch, Canyonlands NP

Almost a year after my trip to Utah in April 2006 I finally got all my pics developed. Ten rolls, 24 images a roll. Unfortunately about one third were overexposed and almost washed out. I'm guessing it was a mechanical defect in the camera, since one pic would be fine, and the next one taken minutes later, same view, would be overexposed.

My initial viewing of the prints was one of disappointment, but looking them over again after the initial let down, showed there are many excellent images. As usual, I also thought "where's the rest them". You think you are taking so many photos, but looking at them at home shows many gaps.

Another disappointment was that standard pictures are simply unable to capture the awe of various vistas. I was at Grandview Point at sunset, and the view in my opinion rivals the Grand Canyon, but the pictures were a letdown.

However, having said that, I will be posting a selection of the best pics along with a trip commentary, a sort of on-line version of a scrapbook I am making to commerate a trip that I planned on taking ever since I saw an article on Canyonlands in the early 70's.

Was the trip worth the wait? Yes
Was I satisfied with the experience? Yes
Will I be waiting another 30 years to do it again? Definately NO
