Every man, woman, and child deserves the right to good quality education.
It's one of the most important aspect of human development. But some
wealthy elite believes good education should only be for a priviledged
few while those unfortunate...well, you know.
Conservatives (particularly the right-winged
Chrisitan Coalition) are pushing for school vouchers. These
vouchers would allow parents (especially the poor) to send their children
to private school. They call it school choice.
What's the catch? The tax money that normally goes into public
school districts (regardless) would be siphoned into private schools.
Therefore, less money for public schools, more for privates.
The conservatives are using deceitful tactics; for example, using
poor inner city school districts as a means to justify the inadequacies
and failures of the public school systems. They're targeting the
poor
and minority--those likely dissatisfied with the education system.
They're also giving these poor people the false impression that private
education can do a better job teaching their disadvantaged children.
I say, from my own personal experience of attending one...private
schools are NOT the solution! Not ALL private schools are capable
of delivering proper education that our youth needs for the 21st century.
They will teach your children whatever THEY may feel is right with them
without any accountability. The one high school I attended gradated students
who didn't even know who Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was. When the
January holiday came around, they couldn't understand why they recieved
a day off; they didn't care because they were glad to have a day to relax
at home.
I understand some schools are not providing such a good learning
environment. There is a lot of corruption
that goes on. America should work together to improve crumbling school
systems, rather than abandoning them.
However, what I do notice is those who support school vouchers never
speaks about how they ended school desegration programs
(known as busing) which DID give some black children living in poor
neighborhoods the opportunity to attend schools in the suburbs. Why
couldn't they have modified that concept and say, "hey, school choice...feel
free to attend any school district within the county area" or "if
your area isn't performing to your expectation, why not go to one that
is?"
They're not going to do that. As soon as these private schools
start filling up with these poor kids, the conservatives will yank
their children away from private schools and put them into public schools.
Then they'll have the go ahead to fill these kids head with more "eurocentric"
views (lies) as they become richer and richer. In the mean time, poor public
schools will eventually close their doors due to lack of funding.
Do you know what that means? No free lunches
or other social programs for poor kids.
It's all a trick, folks. It's
another conservative plan to privatize everything, thus makng the rich
become richer as the poor become poorer. Some areas are experimenting
with vouchers and already seeing corruption. |
