Farming Game
Farming Game
The Farming Game is a boardgame. It is, not surprisingly, supposed to represent farming in eastern Washington State, USA. You are not a successful farmer, or even a fulltime farmer. You are a part-time farmer with dreams of becoming a full-time farmer.
You have land. The board represents a year. As you go around the year you have the option of buying more land, cows and equipment, or harvesting. Harvesting is risky because there is a harvesting expense. Essentially, the more land you have of a particular type (grain, hay, fruit or cattle) the more income when you harvest. The expense stays about the same.
You harvest different crops at different times (spaces on the board) and they are worth different amounts. Hay is worth the least, harvested the most. Grain is next. Fruit is worth a lot, but is expensive. Cattle are cheap, worth a lot, but are seldom harvested (you are supposedly selling the babies).
We have added our own rules (that is in the rules, adding your own rules). Players can buy land from each other, but only during winter (like everything else). You are only subject to what a square says if you have that type of land. Explanation: the game assumes that since you cannot sell your land, you always have hay and grain. With this rule, if you have no hay you are not subject to "hay" squares, same for grain.
It is a surprising amount of fun. People get hooked on this game. People who lose a lot still like this game.
