Marion Codner

 

Marion Codner was born in 1965 in Mendoza, Argentina, and immigrated to Israel in 1984. She was selected by the Philatelic Service to design the 1993 Festival Stamps, which was her first stamp design project. During the following year, she was asked to design the first set of Klussendorf Tourist Sites stamps. The original request was to create a set of stamps based on actual photographs of the different sites. However, based on the artist's recommendation, the design approach was altered to scanning of original aquarelles. The set included 10 stamps, of which 9 were actually issued and one was rejected (see the Story of the Qumran Stamp). During the preliminary sketching phase 2 of the stamps were designed in a vertical layout, altered later to a horizontal one.
