To whom it may concern:

Villanova's campus is perceived by certain eyes as very beautiful; ordered, neat, groomed. In the mad scramble to develop this piece of land which is Villanova, the beauty of a natural, untouched environment has been plowed over by pavement, sterile buildings, and uncomfortable attempts at molding an exotic arboritum... with one minute exception. Indeed, there remains one tiny, remote piece of land where members of the Villanova community can go to appreciate the beauty of the natural ecosystem of this region as it was evolving peacefully until the rash, viral development of a culture in denial of its own physicality.

As the local environment outside of Villanova is being perverted on an exceedingly large scale, remnants like the one we speak of become increasingly valuable; not monetarily, of course, but inherently; relative to the shortsighted abomination of all that surrounds. By the mere fact that a place like this remains, it becomes a place of power.

Unfortunately, judging by the recent actions of the university which have held the natural environment here as at best a resource and at worst a nuisance, we suspect that this area may be slated for some sort of foolhardy tampering in the coming years. In appreciation of the beauty of this place and as supporters of the continued existence of natural local environments as both a learning tool and a reminder of our own delightful mortality, we members of the community of Villanova demand an absolute moratorium on this area. It must be left undisturbed; if it helps to see it as a resource for future Villanovans, so be it. In any case, we seek some reaction to this demand on your part.

Seeing as the eliciting of alumni contributions remain a focal concentration of the universities efforts, we also declare that if this demand goes unheeded, and this place is supplanted by a new air conditioning duct or exotic, uncomfortable tree, or even a walking path and information board about local species, all potential financial contributions by this group to Villanova will be instead donated to some organization working for the defense of natural environments. Thank You.
