Love

When you love someone, you do not love them all the time, in exactly the same way, from moment to moment. It is an impossibility. It is even a lie to pretend to. And yet, this is exactly what most of us demand. We have so little faith in the ebb and flow of life, of love, of relationships. We leap at the flow of time and resist in terror its ebb. We are afraid it will never return. We insist on permanency, on duration, on continuity; when the only continuity possible in life, as in love, is in growth, in fluidity - in freedom. The only real security is not in owning or possessing, not in demanding or expecting, not in hoping, even. Security in a relationship lies neither in looking back to what it was, nor forward to what it might be, but living in the present and accepting it as it is now. For relationships, too, must be like islands. One must accept them for what they are here and now, within their limits---islands surrounded and interrupted bu the sea, continuously visited and abandoned by the tides. One must accept the serenity of the winged life, of ebb and flow, of intermittency.
-Anne Morrow Lindbergh, and excerpt from Gift of the Sea

When love beckons to you follow him,
Though his ways are hard and steep.
And when his wings enfold you yield to him,
Though the sword hidden among his pinions may wound you.
And when he speaks to you believe in him,
Though his voice may shatter your dreams as the north wind lays waste the garden.
For even as love crowns you so shall he crucify you.
Even as he is for your growth so is he for your pruning.

-The Prophet by Gibran Khalil Gibran

Could It Be Love?

If it makes your flesh creep
If you feel high and deep
If you can't fall asleep
Could it be love?
If your minds are dim
and clear
If you are couraged
and you have fear
If you are happy
and you cry a tear
Could it be love?
If you are sad
while you have fun
If you are on an endless run
Could it be love?

My heart longs for the touch of yours,
the look in your eyes as they meet,
I long to hold you,
In my arms and never let go
You are all I think of,
You occupy my every thought,
Part of you is in everything I do,
When I hear your voice,
It sooths my soul,
My heart my soul
Are yours and yours alone
