Children's is located on the west end of the first floor of Oxnard Public Library. A reference librarian is always on duty to help with questions, reader's advisories, and general assistance.

Summer Reading Program

Wednesdays at 3:30 - 4:30 p.m. June 24 - Around the World With Stories
Many Countires have tales about tricksters--animals that try to fool other animals or even people --and puppeteer Ric Morton will share some of these with us.
July 1 - Around the World With Games
Have you ever played "Without Hands," like Israeli children, or "Catching the Dragon's Tail," as those in China do? We'll play some wonderful games that children in far-off lands enjoy.
July 8 - Around the World With Dance
Talented folk dancers will demonstrate their fancy footwork, and then we'll try a few steps of our own.
July 15 - Around the World With Crafts
Its amazing how many different crafts children of other nations make, using similar materials. We'll create our own handiwork based on ideas from several other countries.
July 22 - Around the World With Food
Vamos a comer, lasst uns essen, kain na, let's eat! No matter how they say it, people from every culture eat delicious food, as we'll discover today.
July 8 - Around the World With Magic
Shawn McMaster will need help from the audience--your help--to perform his astounding feats of prestidigitation.

The following are Story Times at the Main Library:

In English:
Tuesday mornings from 10:30 - 11:00 a.m.(Recommended for 3-5 year olds)
Tuesday nights from 7:00 - 7:30 p.m.(For all Ages)
Saturdays 12:00 noon to 12:30 p.m.(For all Ages)

In Spanish: Thursday nights from 5:00 - 5:30 p.m. For all Ages


Calendar of Events


Homework Center

Volunteers help students from kindergarten to eighth grade in the Homework Center from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Held in the Children's Activity Room the Homework Center is stocked with a set of encyclopedias and other reference books frequently used to answer homework questions.

A personal computer (with CD-ROMs) is available for skill development .

Librarians are on hand to assist when additional resources are needed. Children can learn to use the computerized library catalog, how to use encyclopedias, look for appropriate resources, and find books on the shelves.
