James Fenimore Cooper

This would be close to the area described in The Deerslayer as Hutter's Point. Cooper spent his childhood around Lake Otsego, hiking and fishing and observing the wildlife in their natural habitat.

Some Cooper items that are on display at the Fenimore Art Museum, located at the farmhouse site that Cooper occupied from 1813 to 1817 with his wife Susan. He became the head of the Cooper family in 1819 after the last of his five older brothers died.

This is the view of "Lake Glimmerglass" that Cooper had from his farmhouse.
