CAT Tracks for March 19, 2009
BOE Election - April 7th

As reported earlier, an election will be held on April 7, 2009 for four (4) seats on the Cairo Board of Education. There are eight (8) candidates. The sample ballot was printed in today's edition of The Cairo Citizen.

If you expected CAT Tracks to weigh in on the election or to endorse candidates, you would be wrong. CAT has been burned so many times in the past that it learned its lesson. In fact, CAT has come up with a theory of sorts, borne out by a succession of supposedly CAT-friendly candidates who dogged us out after being elected. It's in the "seats"...the chairs that the BOE members occupy while attending meetings. There must be a switch...and "evil switch" that is triggered as their butts hit the chairs. I mean, it happens every time!

In fact, your CAT negotiating team was quite fearful when we were forced to use those same chairs for negotiations sessions...afraid that a transition would take place...that we would sell you out...like Dr. CAT, Mr. DOG. Fortunately, CATs evidently have stronger constitutions than the average bear and seem to be immune. Of course, after all CAT's have been through over the years, we can withstand anything! Then again, guess it shouldn't be too surprising. Anyone who has ever experienced cats and dogs know well the independent nature of cats. CATs do what we want...when we want...any outside influence be damned!

However, I would venture one comment...

Whoever is elected for the next four years...I hope they are committed to attending the meetings. It is disappointing indeed for CAT representative to show up for every meeting and only see 4 or 5 BOE members in attendance.
