SPECIAL BOE MEETING...MINUTES

The Cairo Board of Education held a Special Meeting on Tuesday, March 3, 2009, at 6:00 p.m.

Below is the official notice and a copy of the agenda.

Scroll down for the minutes...

I. Call To Order - 6 p.m.

II. Roll Call - Coleman, Brown, Mayberry, Stubblefield, Gooden, and Burris.

III. Recognition and Comments from Employees and Public - Carolyn Allen asked to speak to the BOE in Closed Session since her complaint had to do with personnel. The BOE agreed. (The complaint had to do with the fact that she had been shorted over $1000 in her paycheck for extra duties. Carolyn spent approximately 20 minutes in closed session. It is her understanding that she will receive the shorted money tomorrow. Incidentally, Ms. Allen hand-delivered a similar complaint from another employee when she visited the Central Office earlier in the day. Also...another CAT speaks out, sending a letter to the Central Office today to be included in the BOE member packets. CAT Tracks received a copy of the letter this afternoon, but held it so that the BOE members could read it first. The letter will be published on Wednesday.)

IV. Approval of Agenda - Special Meeting - Motion made, seconded, and passed.

V. Personnel/Evaluation - Skipped...done in closed session.

VI. Closed Session - The BOE voted to enter closed session at 6:02 p.m. The BOE voted to exit closed session at 8:30 p.m. (As mentioned above, Carolyn Allen took 20 minutes of that time...Superintendent Swopes was "out" for 45 minutes, presumeably so that the BOE could discuss his evaluation. That accounts for about an hour. The other 90 minutes? Well, there were the three principals...and, as usual, dinner was served!)

VII. Requiring Action/Decision By Board of Education - Nothing.

VIII. Adjourn - The BOE voted to adjourn at 8:31 p.m.

See what you miss when you don't attend meetings of the Cairo Board of Education???
