CARBONDALE -- Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s Division of Continuing Education and the Southern Illinois P-20 Education Alliance will co-host “Closing the Gap: Practical Strategies for All Educators” on March 30, 2009.
The conference is for elementary, high school, college and university faculty, administrators and future teachers. It runs from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at John A. Logan College in Carterville.
Presenting the keynote address, “Children as Complete Human Beings: Going Beyond a Narrow Approach to Measuring Student Achievement,” will be Michael Giesen, a Prineville, Ore., science teacher and recipient of the 2008 National Teacher of the Year Award from President George W. Bush.
A special “I Can Do It!” workshop, focusing on classroom management, is also on the conference schedule. Limited to 60 participants, it’s for first-year to fourth-year teachers and those planning to enter the teaching professions. Those not attending this workshop will participate in breakout sessions.
