Paul D. Donnigan
CAIRO - Paul D. Donnigan, 84, died Wednesday morning, Dec. 10, 2008, at his home in Cairo.
He was born Oct. 28, 1924, in Cairo, the son of the late Owen David and Helen Witt Donnigan.
He was married to Inez Adams, and was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cairo.
Mr. Donnigan was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army and attained the rank of sergeant. He was a member of Cairo Elks Lodge 651 and past exalted ruler and worked with the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad before his retirement for 42 years.
Mr. Donnigan is survived by his wife, Inez Donnigan of Cairo; one daughter, Kelly (Alan Chambliss) Donnigan of Carbondale; one son, Patrick (Cindy) Donnigan of Lebanon; four granddaughters, Katelyn Chambliss, of Carbondale, Megan Donnigan of Oxford, Miss., Haley Donnigan and Lydia Donnigan, both of Lebanon; and other relatives and many friends.
Elk memorial services will be at 7:30 p.m. today by the Cairo Elks Lodge 651.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 12, 2008, in Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo, with Pastor Nan Ellis officiating. Burial will be in Mound City National Cemetery in Mound City. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo.
Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cairo.
