THE EDUCATION FACTORY

Well...never thought I would see this era arrive in Cairo School District Number One. And, actually, I have not seen it with my own eyes...yet. May have to drop by a local attendance center and take a gander.

Have I got your attention?

Have received word on good authority that time clocks have been installed in the District's attendance centers. And apparently they are NOT your basic (cheap) version. Word is...they are the kind that you use your thumb and type in a code...no cards, etc. The information goes directly to the District office. They are to be used by the cleaning staff, the secretaries, and aides.

Wonder what brought this on...and whether it will solve the problem, justifying the expense...and the ruffled feathers of those affected?!

Also...wonder if one has been installed at the Central Office...for the non-certified personnel in THAT building. What's fair for the goose...

It will be interesting to see how this plays out...

It's a definite change in working conditions, which should be negotiated with the affected unions. If they ever try to do it to us, you can bet a demand to bargain will be nailed to the Central Office door!

On the other hand, I've always thought a time clock could be a good thing...because two can play that game. You want me to clock in and out...then do NOT expect me to work "off the clock"...no more grading papers on my time, no more lesson plans on my time...no more!!!

And...expect a line! No more arriving at 7 a.m., 7:15 a.m., and the like for a school day that officially begins at, say, 8:00 a.m. SHARP! Line forms behind me at 7:55 a.m., and there will be another line approximately five minutes before "Quitin' Time"...would want the District to have to pay me overtime if I clock out late!

Hmmmm...wonder if a whistle will blow to mark the official times? Hey, if Bunge does it...
