Christopher, Illinois Coach Arrested

There’s no comment from school officials about the arrest Friday night of Christopher, Illinois varsity basketball coach Gary Gischer Junior.

The future of Christopher, Illinois varsity basketball coach Gary Gischer Junior is currently in question.

The coach, who is also a physical education teacher at Christopher High School, was stopped at 1:20 a.m. last Friday by Franklin County sheriff's deputies.

Deputies pulled Gisher over on Illinois Route 37 at the northern edge of West Frankfort. When they searched his car they found marijuana and a pipe. Gischer was cited for driving under the influence, illegal possession of cannabis and illegal possession of drug paraphernalia.

Neither the superintendent nor the principal would comment on Gischer's status.

At this point superintendent Richard Towers says no special school board meetings are scheduled to discuss Gisher. There is a regularly scheduled meeting set for Thursday, September 27th.

Principal Roy Kirkpatrick said in general disciplinary issues would be discussed at these meetings.
