Say it isn't so, Mrs. Tabor!

And the Superintendent is her uncle?

Well, at least she wasn't in a porn flick!

Elementary School Teacher Arrested, Faces Felony Drug Charges

A West Kentucky elementary school teacher was behind bars Friday night facing felony drug charges. The Crittenden County Elementary School teacher was arrested early Friday morning. Her arrest comes just days after a teacher from Crittenden County Middle School was in court accused of assaulting a student. Kentucky State Police say 26 year old Amy Gayle Tabor was speeding along Interstate 24 in Trigg County when she was pulled over. During a roadside interview, police found indicators of criminal activity from Tabor and a male passenger. A search turned up methamphetamine, lortabs and drug paraphernalia. Crittenden County School Superintendent John Belt calls Tabor an excellent teacher and a good person which makes her arrest even more devastating. Amy Tabor began teaching at Crittenden County Elementary School in 2003. She's been Mrs. Tabor to Kindergarten students for the past four years. Tabor is scheduled to teach second grade in the fall. Now that job is in jeopardy after the 26 year old was caught with illegal drugs and supplies you'll never see on a back to school list.

Superintendent John Belt was unavailable for an on-camera interview but told NewsChannel 6 illegal drug use is not tolerated by the district. Belt said Tabor's arrest will prompt a district investigation and she could lose her teaching position. Some people we talked to say good teacher or not, Tabor should not be allowed back in the classroom. "Because they are supposed to be a good influence on our kids," says Janie Fisher. "I know it's probably a private matter but if she's doing drugs she sure should not be teaching our kids. What is she teaching? What is that saying? I wouldn't want her teaching mine," adds Shelia Gregory

In the end, it's up to the Superintendent who is also Tabor's uncle to decide whether she's allowed to return to school Belt Tells NewsChannel 6 Tabor will get due process rights and be treated just like any other teacher in the district. The district implemented a drug test policy for students and staff last year. An investigation into Tabor's actions should be finished in about a week.
