IV. Recognition of Guests/Comments From Public And Employees - Some of the teachers' aides came forward (expecting Local 773 Representative John Price to be present) and expressed concern on the amount to be taken out for health insurance premiums.

VII. Approval of Treasurer's Report - At the request of a BOE member, Superintendent Leotis Swopes read out loud a portion of the Treasurer's Report...ending balance. Motion made, seconded, and passed.

VIII. Approval of Payment of Bills/Payroll - After some discussion and clarification, a motion was made, seconded, and passed.

IX. Informational

  1. Distribution of Used Textbooks to Students - Bennett School. It was explained that the District had decided to dispose of the old textbooks and felt that it was better to give them to students who might make use of them rather than simply discarding them.
  2. IASB Survey - A reminder that it needed to be turned in.
  3. Weekend Retreat - Cairo Jr/Sr High School - Purpose is to encourage and increase community involvement.

    a. Hire Staff for Summer School Per Attached List - Motion made, seconded, and passed. (See lists below.)
    b. Hire Rose Mary Kloss - Technology Coord. (80 Days) - Motion made, seconded, and passed.
    c. Hire Paula McKinnis - Librarian (3 Days Per Week) - Motion made, seconded, and passed.
    d. Curt Hagegeorge - Science Teacher - CJSHS - Motion made, seconded, and passed.
    e. Accept Resignation of Ron Newell Due To Retirement From The Position of Alternative Class Teacher at CJSHS and Advertise Position - Motion made, seconded, and passed.
    f. Accept Resignation of Jessica Foster as 6th Grade Teacher and Advertise Position - Motion made, seconded, and passed.
  3. Motion made, seconded, and passed to hire Sara Kivett as Junior High Math Teacher.
  4. Motion made, seconded, and passed to hire Ron Woods as Special Education Teacher.
  5. Salary Adjustment/Correction - Discussed in closed session...no public action taken.
  6. Award Food Service Contract - Motion made, seconded, and passed to award contract to Chartwell.
  7. Approve School Treasurer's Appointment - Motion made, seconded, and passed to appoint Mary Coleman as Treasurer.
  8. Approve Updates Regarding Board Policy Manual - Tabled.
  9. There will be a Special Meeting of the Cairo Board of Education on June 26, 2008, at 5 p.m.

The following were hired to work for the summer food program at Emerson Elementary beginning June 12-July 2 and from July 8-24:

  • Vanassa Gallion - Trainer/Monitor and Claims
