Crews Investigate Another Suspicious Fire in Cairo
By: Heartland News
CAIRO, Ill. - Fire crews in Cairo fought another suspicious fire Thursday night.
Cairo Fire Chief John Myer says the fire department received a call about 8:30 p.m. Thursday of a fire at a house on the 800 block of 26th Street.
Crews from four fire departments responded and got the fire under control in about 45 minutes. The house sustained heavy damage inside.
Myer says the fire is considered suspicious. The state fire marshal is investigating.
Anyone with information regarding the fire is asked to call the Cairo Fire Department at 618-734-1947 or the Cairo Police Department at 618-734-2131.
This comes on the heels of another string of suspicious fires including one on the 600 block of 21st Street set over the weekend.
That's in addition to a fire at the Junior-Senior High School in February, and to several other homes late last year and in 2005.
