CAT Tracks for May 9, 2008
WINDING DOWN... |
Seventeen school days to go...and many, many less "teaching" days! It's time for the annual...
YEAR-END REMINDERS:
Section 4.3 of the Contractual Agreement states:
Employees requesting balance of yearly pay on the first pay day following the last day of school must do so by notifying the superintendent in writing no later than May 15. The total number allowed shall not exceed fifteen (15) in number and shall first honor those teachers resigning or dismissed by the District. Requests for payment for those not leaving the District will be honored by lottery. Federal and State tax deducted from the lump-sum payment shall be at the approximate rate/amount as if payments had been made as normally scheduled.
So...if you would like to receive a lump-sum payment of your "summer money", notify the Superintendent IN WRITING by May 15th. (NOTE: The first pay day following the last day of school this year is June 13th.)
If you are one of "the few, the proud, the perfect attendee", you will receive your well-deserved $250 on that date! Been there, done that...haven't been the same since. You have my utmost respect!
Extra duty money (that you have not already received on the "pay-as-you-do" system) is also to be paid on June 13th. (Coaches get/got their money on the payday following the completion of their season.)
And last but not least...you begin getting your annual summer raise on June 15th! You know...CAT dues deduction ends with the 2nd check in May. Your check will be "heavier" in June, July, and August!
CONTRACT NEGOTIATIONS
Yeah...we're workin' on it!
Changing superintendents in mid-stream has delayed a process that we had hoped would have been completed by now.
CAT sent its list of "issues" to be discussed to (then) Interim Superintendent Bill Rogers on February 5th. The BOE has yet to respond with their list, although one of their negotiating team members told me at last month's regular BOE meeting that they were working on it.
So, be patient...CAT Tracks will provide you with updates as they occur.
YEAR END LUNCHEON
As usual, the District will hold its annual "Farewell Party" on June 2nd. That is the day when any retirees will be honored. We know for a fact that two long-time CATs have officially made that decision. So...please join us in wishing your friends and colleagues "Bon Voyage"!
CAT OFFICER ELECTION
Did you think (were you hoping) that the "election issue" would go away?
The best laid plans of CATs and men!
It was announced in the December 7th edition of CAT Tracks that there would be at least two vacancies among the four offices.
Current CAT elected officers are:
So...we will need AT LEAST two CATs to step forward (feel free to push someone if need be) and place their names into nomination for the vacated offices. (Also, if the two incumbents who are not resigning/retiring decide that they would like to throw their hats into the ring for President or Vice President, then nominees would be needed for those positions.)
In short, let the nominations and campaigning begin!
If you are interested in running for any of the four positions listed above, please notify me by the end of school on May 23rd.
The election will be held on May 30th.
Well, that's a wrap for today. Won't do the annual "farewell", since there will be more editions of CAT Tracks to come before this year is out. Bye for now...and have a great weekend!
