CAT Tracks for November 5, 2007 PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT ADVISORY

ISBE has just put out an "advisory" on new playground equipment shipments that have arrived recently from China.

The bulletin emphasizes that ISBE is NOT yet prohibiting use of this equipment, as field safety studies have yet to be conducted. Such studies normally take as much as six months to complete, so if your school district is currently using this equipment, it may continue to do so for the remainder of the 2007-2008 school year.

If your District has yet to purchase this equipment, it would be advised to delay requisition of same until such time that results of the studies are compiled and officially acted upon.

ISBE does request that if you have already purchased this equipment, you monitor it closely, keep accurate records of its use and the accompanying results, and forward said data promptly to their safety division.
