ACCUMULATED PERSONAL LEAVE DAYS |
One of the changes that occured as a result of the last Contract negotiations is that personal leave can now accumulate...to a maximum of five (5) days.
For your convenience, the language on personal leave is:
The Board shall grant each employee two (2) days per year of personal leave to be used without loss of pay with appropriate notice to his/her immediate supervisor. Said personal leave shall be allowed to accumulate to a maximum of five (5) days, including the leave of the current year. Unused personal leave shall accumulate as sick leave.
The superintendent shall grant one (1) additional day of personal leave to any employee who so requests. The employee shall reimburse the District at the prevailing rate for a substitute teacher--if, in fact, a substitute teacher is used.
In the past, if you did not use your personal leave days during the school year, they were converted to accumulated sick leave. (As is indicated in the above language, that will continue to be the case if you do not use your personal leave and the accumulation reaches the maximum of 5 days...something that could happen for the first time next year.)
Since this is the first year for implementation of the new language, your available personal leave should be 4 days (if you did not use any personal leave days last year), 3 days (if you used one personal leave day last year), or 2 days (if you used both personal leave days last year.)
The reason I bring this up at this time is that your September 15th paycheck should show the correct available amount of personal leave days...as well as the correct available sick leave amount. I received notice from the central office on Thursday that the figures had been updated...and the review of one member's paystub on Friday would seem to confirm that.
Therefore...take a look at your first new 2006-07 paycheck from Friday and "check it out"!
