SPECIAL BOE MEETING - MINUTES |
The meeting was called to order at 6:02 p.m. All BOE members were present.
Under "Recognition and Comments from Employees and Public", Tommy Ellis expressed a need to hire a superintendent who had Cairo and its children at heart...something that had not been done for many years. He indicated that the community should be involved in the hiring process to insure that it was done. Mr. Ellis closed his remarks by stressing the need to provide something for our children to do between the hours of 5 p.m. and 7 p.m., when they are most vulnerable to violence and mischief.
A motion was made, seconded, and passed to approve the agenda for tonight's special meeting.
The BOE voted to enter closed session at 6:05 p.m. The BOE voted to exit closed session at 6:37 p.m.
A motion was made, seconded, and passed - by a 4-3 vote - to contact Ronald Driemeier from Galatia to see if he was still interested in the superintendency vacancy in Cairo...and if so to enter into negotiations for an acceptable contract. (Brown, Gooden, Mallory, and Mayberry voted "YES"; Burris, Coleman, and Stubblefield vote "NO", with Stubblefield qualifying his vote by stating that the first interview session - which included Mr. Driemeier - was scheduled at a time when it was known that he would not be able to attend. Since he was not present for the interview, he did not feel that he should vote to hire.)
A motion was made, seconded, and passed to appoint Vernon Stubblefield to represent the Cairo Board of Education regarding a TIF district in Cairo, as requested by Mayor Judson Childs.
A motion was made, seconded, and passed to adjourn at 6:38 p.m.
