CAT Tracks for June 20, 2007
PAYCHECK ERRORS |
Did you notice...
The District withheld a "double premium" for BCBS employee-only coverage on June 15th...$32.31. This was most likely a result of playing "catch up" at the end of May...having to deduct double premiums due to the transition to the new rates (which were not in place in time for the May 15th payroll period). The District let the May BCBS deduction entry "ride", instead of splitting it for the month of June...and thereafter.
Have received acknowledgment of the oversight from the payroll department with an assurance that the situation will be rectified on the June 30th paycheck...there will be NO EMPLOYEE-ONLY BCBS PREMIUM DEDUCTION on the June 30th check. Then...July will be done correctly...half of the monthly premium deducted on the 15th, the remainder on the 30th.
The next test will be in August when the District increases its monthly contribution by $7.50.
Stay tuned...
POSTSCRIPT I: The e-mail that I received from the District payroll department seemed to indicate that those employees with "Family/Spouse or Child" coverage had their premiums split to reflect the proper one-half deduction. (Hey, you deserve some kind of special treatment...for the BIG BUCKS that you have to pay each month!!!)
POSTSCRIPT II: The contract language on "paycheck errors" is that if the error exceeds $50, then it must be corrected within 24 hours of written notification. Since this error was "only" $32.31, it is appropriate for the payroll department to make the correction on the June 30th paycheck...UNLESS you had other errors that would push the total over the $50 threshold. If so, then go for it!
