CCRC "MEET THE CANDIDATES" FORUM |
If you wanted to meet the incumbents...forgetaboutit!
A "Meet the Candidates" forum sponsored by the Concerned Citizens for the Recovery of Cairo was held on Thursday, April 12th, from 7-9 p.m. in the Cairo Junior/Senior High School gymnasium. Approximately 75 attendees listened as seven of fourteen candidates presented their views and fielded questions posed by the CCRC and the public.
Both mayoral candidates - Judson Childs and Karl Klein - were in attendance, along with James R. (Bob) Conroy (Councilman at Large), Joseph W. Holder (Ward 1), Thomas Simpson (Ward 2), Lorenzo C. Nelson (Ward 3), and Richard Pitcher (Ward 4). Neither candidate from Ward 5 was present.
KFVS TV Channel 12 was there to cover the event, as were local media. So...stay tuned for their reports.
The moderator of the forum also asked the candidates for Cairo School Board who were in attendance to stand and be recognized. They were Mary Coleman, Delbert Irish, Bobby Mayberry, Vernon Stubblefield, and Erica Wells.
Prior to the introduction of the candidates, the top three winners of a CJSHS student contest were recognized to read their essays/poems on what Cairo meant to them. The winners were presented checks for $100, $75, and $50 respectively. Mrs. Betty Lane was also recognized for her assistance in conducting the contest.
