Meridian Regional

Playing just hours after the sudden death of one of their cheerleaders, the Cairo Pilots won the Meridian Regional, downing the host Bobcats 80-74. The Pilots advance to the Herrin Sectional where they will play Pinckneyville.


Cairo community mourns the loss of a local high school student Kanidryana Moss

CAIRO -- A cheerleader at Cairo High School died of an asthma attack just hours before the team played in their regional final game Friday night.

The Alexander County Coroner, Harold McNelly, said 16 year old Kanidryana Moss passed away as she was being transported by air to the Cape Girardeau Hospital. He said she had a history of asthma attacks.

The Heavenly Gates Funeral Home director in Cairo said Moss was an over achiever in academics and was very involved with student activities. He added that funeral arrangements are tentatively scheduled for Saturday, 1 pm, at Cairo High School.
