Catherine Patricia Lewis

Catherine Patricia "Pat" Lewis, nee Hurley, 67, of Belleville, IL, born December 16, 1938, in Cairo, IL, died Thursday, October 26, 2006, at Four Fountains Convalescent Center, Belleville, IL.

Pat began teaching in 1958 and retired in 1993 from Emerson School in Cairo, IL. After retiring, she moved to Belleville, IL, where she worked as a substitute teacher in the Belleville Parochial School System until earlier this year. Mrs. Lewis was also an instructor for PSR (Parish School of Religion) at St. Teresa Parish in Belleville for five years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Lewis; her mother, Eleanor, nee Sweeney, Hurley; her father, Riley Hurley; and two brothers, Danny and David Hurley.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Lisa Lewis, and her beloved granddaughters, Jordan and Megan Lewis, all of Belleville, IL. Also surviving are two sisters, Florence (Hugh) McCue of Springfield, IL, and Elaine (Harvey) Clanahan of Mound City, IL; a brother, Dennis (Mary) Hurley of Clinton Township, MI; her stepmother, Marion Hurley of Cairo, IL; her mother-in-law, Wilma Stallings of Charleston, MO; numerous nieces and nephews; and in-laws, Bob and June Gagen.

Pat will be deeply missed by her loving family and friends and the thousands of students whose lives she so generously touched.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, October 29, 2006, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, IL. A prayer service will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Funeral procession will leave at 9:15 a.m. Monday, October 30, 2006, from George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, IL, for a 9:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Teresa Catholic Church, Belleville.
