CAT Tracks for October 27, 2006
CHA-CHING |
Pulaski County hits funding jackpot. Good news for the area economy...our neighbor to the north.
Hopefully this is NOT ominous news for Cairo...and its proposed biodiesel plant.
Remember "back in the day"...when it was announced that Cairo was going to get riverboat gambling...the "ship that sailed" to Metropolis? Who could forget!
But...then again...what potential business would pass up an opportunity to locate in Cairo...where "Southern Hospitality Meets Northern Enterprise"...but has neither...where industry management could offer its employees the spectacle of monthly (daily?) political fireworks? I mean...haven't you seen the sign...we have it all, Santa...access by land, sea, and air...it's a "no-brainer"!
I better quit now...I'm on the verge of saying something "CATty"!
Still think I ought to establish an "Optimist Club" in Cairo...if I could just get over the feeling that it just wouldn't work out! What do you think?

IL: Ethanol Plant funding Secured
Melissa Crabtree,
A project to bring an ethanol plant to Pulaski County, Illinois is moving forward.
The county received a record amount in federal funding today to help pay for site improvements.
The ethanol plant will be located off old highway 51 at the SISCO Regional Industrial Park in Pulaski County.
Congressman Jerry Costello was in Mound City today to hand over a check to the county for $2.7 million.
The grant money will pay for infrastructure at a new ethanol plant.
Workers will first break ground by putting in a new road at the industrial park and install water and sewer lines before major construction begins.
The ethanol plant will create 50 permanent jobs.
Meanwhile, 200 workers will be needed for the construction.
County leaders say the $2.7 million dollar check is the single largest grant Pulaski County has ever received.
Along with the federal grant, the county received a check for $1.7 million from the Illinois Department of Transportation today.
