PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES

First of all, my apologies to Ryan O'Shea. In a weekend e-mail, he informed me of an Introduction to Computers class that he was teaching that would allow teachers to receive college credit...and thus CPDUs towards recertification. The class started last night...but I'm sure that if you are interested, arrangements could still be made to take the class. He also offers the possibility of other course offerings. Below is a copy of what he sent me...

******************************

I am teaching COM 111 (Introduction to Computers) down at the Connell Smith Building on Monday nights (Starting August 15th) (6:00-8:45 PM). You can enroll by calling 734-3660. Tuition is free to residents 60 and older! Great Class at a great price!

I am trying to start some other classes at night Introduction to Word, Excel, Access, Windows, Microsoft Publisher, Systems Analysis, or we can start another section of COM 111. Contact Valerie Hall at 734-3660 and mention my name if you are interested. This would be another professional development opportunity in technology for recertification.

Actually, Ryan should shoulder some of the blame for my tardiness in sending out this professional development notice. In his original notice, he emphasized (in bold print) the line about "Tuition is free to residents 60 and older!". Since, as those of you who attended the AFA Workshop last Thursday well know, I RESEMBLE THAT REMARK! Responding to Ryan's feeble attempt at humor (Grrrrrrrrr...don't make an OLD CAT mad!!!) distracted me from doing my official duty!

In a more serious vein, I have received notice of two additional professional development opportunities. One is HEADSUP! READING, a 3 credit hour course offered through Shawnee Community College to be taught by Robbie Koen at the Cairo Head Start at 4115 Sycamore Street in Cairo. It begins this Thursday, August 18th, at 5:45 p.m.

The second opportunity is the availability of "Saluki Opportunity Scholarships" for graduate study at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. If you enroll in the Graduate School Program and take at least three graduate-credit hours at SIUC each semester, those eligible will have a $250 scholarship award posted to their accounts.

Information about both of these professional opportunities is posted below...
