SIUC a leader in minority graduates, survey says

CARBONDALE — Southern Illinois University Carbondale is second in the nation for graduating African-American education majors, according to the latest edition of “Diverse: Issues in Higher Education” magazine.

Officials say the university moved up two spots from last year in this area. The magazine’s ranking is based on the most recent data available from the U.S. Department of Education, which is 2004-05.

The survey also ranked SIUC sixth in the number of bachelor’s degrees in education awarded to all minority groups. The campus ranked 10th last year.
