TRUANT - WALK...DON'T DRIVE! |
Yeah...but notice the BIG catch...it takes 18 absences "without a valid excuse." But...teacher...not only did my dog eat my homework, he growled at me and wouldn't let me leave the house!
From the Associated Press by way of the WPSD Channel 6 web site...
IL: Bill Would Take Away Student's License
Associated Press
High school students who chronically cut class or drop out altogether would have their drivers' licenses taken away under a bill moving through the state house.
The measure would strip drivers' licenses from any student younger than 18 who misses at least 18 days of school during a school year without a valid excuse.
Students who are chronically truant also wouldn't be able to enroll in driver's education class under the proposed law.
The measure would allow dropouts and truants to get their licenses back if they re-enrolled in school or got a general-education degree.
Seventeen other states have similar laws on their books.
The Illinois proposal already has passed the House and is awaiting a Senate vote.
