Investigation Continues Into Cairo Shooting

More christmas violence in Cairo. Illinois state police were called out around 2 AM Sunday to respond to a shooting along commercial avenue.

Three men suffered gun shot wounds while a fourth individual was hit by a vehicle.

One person suffered serious injuries. Local bar owner Percy Jones Jr. Says he didn't witness any of the incidents but believes it actually occurred between seventh and eighth street, outside of the bar Charles Place.

"Only thing I saw was police cars when I closed my bar. I went to my right to fourth street and turned left and went home," said Jones. "I didn't even go through all the commotion."

Jones has owned Mary J's lounge, located on commercial avenue for over seven years. He says drinking in the streets and loitering have become a big problem.

"You might have 25 to 30 people inside the club and 75 or 100 outside," Jones said. "So as a club owner we have no authority to come out here cause this is city property in the streets."

The Illinois state police have not released any of the names of the victims. Anyone with information about the cairo shooting is asked to call the ISP at (618)845-3740 or the Cairo police department at (618) 734-2131.
