BOE RECALLS 13 CATS

The Cairo BOE held a special meeting on May 20th at 6 p.m. for the purpose of recalling RIFed employees...

Answering roll call were Griggs, Posey, Mallory, Huff, and Gooden. (Jones entered at 6:07 p.m.) Superintendent Isom stated that recalls were possible because the District had been notified that its Title I and Title II grants would be funded next year at 85% of the current level. He explained that this is "typical" for this time of year and that more funds would probably be approved later. The notice received by the District indicates funding of $871,382. The recalls account for $670,745 (salary and benefits) of that amount. The other $200,000 is a mandatory set-aside required by NCLB for supplementary educational services.

Certified personnel recalled were:

-Marianne Maginel
-Betty Lane
-Larry Morris
-Ruth Mayfield
-Margaret Grueninger
-Gail Parker
-Willie Mae Watkins
-Gloria Wiggins
-Sharon Neeley
-Angela Coleman
-Regina Brown
-Curtis Meyers
-Nancy Herbert

In a matter related to tentative assignments, the Superintendent noted that "looping" would be discontinued - that data showed that it had not been successful.

The BOE voted to go into closed session at 6:08 p.m. The BOE voted to exit closed session at 6:50 p.m.

The BOE voted to withdraw its previous offer (of superintendent) to Nate Anderson.

The BOE voted to hire two interim superintendents for next school year at 120 days each. (No names were mentioned.)

Prior to adjournment, President Griggs asked if any of the BOE members had any comments. BOE Member Jones explained her "abstain" vote by saying that she didn't thing the hiring of two people (for superintendent) with two different personalities was a good idea.

The BOE voted to adjourn at 6:54 p.m.
