SPECIAL CAIRO BOE MEETING

Strange...

Arrived at the District Administrative Offices at 5:55 p.m. for the scheduled 6:00 p.m. Special Meeting of the Cairo Board of Education - only to find the doors to the Board Conference room closed. Apparently, a couple of Board members were meeting with one of the Financial Oversight Panel administrators. A couple of other Board members were waiting in the office of the Director of Finance and Payroll.

Took a seat in the hallway, but did not have long to wait. The doors were opened at 6:03 p.m. and the meeting was called to order by Board President Joe Griggs at 6:04 p.m. with Jones, Posey, Mallory, and Gooden answering roll call. (Superintendent Isom was not present.)

President Griggs asked if there were any "Comments from Employees and Public". There were none.

The published agenda for the meeting indicated an "Open Session" consisting of the following topics:

A. District Personnel Issues
B. Financial Issues
C. District Disciplinary Action
D. Other

However, there was no discussion and the Board voted to go into closed session at 6:05 p.m. (Board member Arnold Burris arrived during closed session.)

The Board voted to come out of closed session at 6:42 p.m. President Griggs immediately called for a motion to adjourn, which passed at 6:43 p.m.

As the few of us in the audience hesitated...wondering if it were really over...President Griggs asked CAT representatives if Dr. Isom had contacted us about a meeting...concerning financial matters. We indicated "no". There was no follow-up discussion.

That's all folks! Stay tuned...
