CAT Tracks for June 10, 2003
THE EARLY RETURNS ARE IN...

It appears that it is mostly good news with respect to paychecks for personnel (certified at least) who were RIFed...

Be sure to check YOUR check, but...

At least some teachers have reported getting their checks today (the legal deadline for RIFs and resignations) instead of the rumored June 13th. Also, those who have checked their tax withholding indicate that it was done at the "same rate/amount" instead of the rumored excess amount. And...employee portions of BCBS health insurance premiums were held out to insure coverage through August 31st.

HOWEVER: One SNAFU...for whatever reason, the deduction for IEA strike loans WAS made for the month of June...but NOT for the months of July and August! So...don't spend all of your "extra money"!

I have contacted the Superintendent and requested that the District notify all lump-sum recipients that they still owe for two months and to provide them with the necessary information (forms, account number, amount, deadline) and address. Of course, the simplest and safest way...since you got a lump-sum payment...would be to remit the outstanding balance immediately, but that is up to you. The Association simply wants to avoid unpleasant surprises and make sure that you are aware of this outstanding obligation.

I have not yet received word on whether the District will honor the Association's request, but I would hope that they would be cooperative in correcting a situation that should not have happened.

I HAVE notified the IEA Credit Union of what has transpired. Their personnel have pledged to be cooperative, but they have indicated that they don't have the ability to contact the personnel in question. (For one thing, they don't know which individuals were RIFed!) If you would like to contact the IEA Credit Union about this matter, their toll free number is 1-800-252-8076. (Actually, that is the number of the main switchboard...just tell whomever answers that you wish to speak to the Credit Union.) Their mailing address is IEA Credit Union, 100 E. Edwards Street, Springfield, IL 62704.

The Association tried to insure that everything would go smoothly with this paycheck...a paycheck that has been such a problem in the past. We got 3 out of 4...and this time, at least the problem is that you have too much money (!) instead of too little...
