A Virtual Visit

Welcome to Bloco J! This is the last flight of stairs, and that's our door at the top

Actually, we have two doors, and see, our building has nice silk plants

Look who answers the door... Hi! Great to see you here. :)

Stepping out of the way, here's my kitchen.

Come on in.

See, didn't Paulo do a nice job fitting the cabinets in? (those are two separate cabinets: the long 3-door top one and a boxy 4-door bottom one; they were on opposite ends of our old kitchen)

Turning around, here's the freezer! OK, doesn't look like much on the outside.

Walking through the door on your right, we come to the "Service Area" : a nice Brazilian custom, a place to do laundry and other cleaning, with its own deep sink. The big black rectangle is open to the (night) sky. Notice that the bedroom air conditioner opens into here, so the hot exhaust helps dry the clothes hung on those blue cords.

On your right, that table is this nice piece of furniture we had made: with space for shoes, cover for our trash and extra (stove) gas, and a table for folding/ironing clothes.

Back out through the kitchen now, we pass Paulo in the living room (we'll come back)

Turn to your left into the corridor. We need to put up a nice framed something at the end. I saw one apartment with a Renaissance (?) angel print -- lovely touch.

The first door on your right is Sophia's bedroom. That's her new bed -- still didn't have a mattress when the photo was taken(she's sleeping in our bed)

Around the corner, her overgrown toy collection.

The second door on your right is our Workshop. There's Old Faithful, the PC, and several works in progress, including that wrought iron, which has since been installed over the windows so Sophia doesn't decide to fly one day .

Now the second door on your left is our bedroom.

See, all three bedrooms have these nice built-in wardrobes.

Of course, it's nightime now and Sophia is sleeping in our bedroom, so I pulled some sneaky camera tricks to get these photos (she woke up and left the room briefly looking for Daddy). Look who just woke up! I feel like Julia Childs!

Indoor hammocks are a Northern staple (subsituting beds in poorer homes). Sophia loves them. Sleep well, Munchkin!

The first door on your left is our bathroom. Not terribly exciting.

But it's big for Manaus standards -- see, there's even a corner to turn. No bathtub, not a Brazilian thing.

OK, back down the corridor to the living room and here's Paulo doing the books.

Past him on the other side is the entryway -- the formal entrance which no one here ever uses, preferring the kitchen door.

We decorated ours with a souvenir from Belem -- just in case one day someone comes in this way. :)

Nice to see you! Hope you can make a real-time visit soon. :) Very big hugs and kisses -- Kate, Paulo, & Sophia
