This page is devoted to Sergei, a black American shorthair cat. Sergei lived for over three years as a kidney failure patient receiving fluid treatments twice a week. His quality of life was remarkable up to the last two weeks of his life when his kidneys shut down completely. Sergei's life provides evidence that a cat can live a long time with kidney failure and have a good quality of life as long as those responsible are concerned with the health of the animal.
Sergei had developed several problems with old age. He had high blood preasure that led to detached retinas in both eyes that left him blind. However, because we recognized what his condition was early on and got treatment for the high blood preassure, he regained his eyesight.
