Books of Shadows can be written in any material on any material. Some people have put their BoS's on a diskette, thus creating a Disk of Shadows (DoS), but if you do that, have a backup. If your computer crashes, you want to be able to retrieve your DoS, right?
You decide what goes into your BoS. It's your notebook. Some suggestions would be anything that you have trouble remembering, rituals, spells, herbalism-related things, stories, songs, chants, your experiences with Witchcraft, basically anything that you can think of. If you are part of a traditionalist coven, there may be a coven BoS that you are required to copy. In that case, just remember: you can have more than your ceremonial BoS. If you want to, keep another--personal--BoS.
Some people have a problem with letting someone else handle their BoS; respect that. It's generally a good idea to ask someone before you touch any of their tools.
