The cauldron is sacred to the Goddess. It is a symbol of rebirth, and many pagans light fires in their cauldrons on Sabbats, especially on the Winter Solstice, when the God is reborn. It represents the womb of the Goddess. The cauldron can be found in mythology as the cauldron of the Celtic goddess Cerridwyn.
