1998 Homecoming Week
George Mason High School
October 26-31, 1998
SPIRIT CONTEST: The Student Council Association will be monitoring Homecoming Spirit all week by judging which class has won each day’s spirit activities. The results of each day’s activities will be displayed on the Spirit Thermometer in the high school hallway outside the main office. The overall winner of the contest will be announced at the Pep Rally on Friday night. Spirit in each class will be judged according to the following criteria:
- Dressing in each day’s theme
- Decorating the assigned hallway
- Participation in inter-class after-school athletic activities
- Participation in the Service Drive
- Competitions at Friday night’s Pep Rally
THE FOLLOWING IS A CALENDAR OF EVENTS FOR OCTOBER 26-31, 1998:
Monday, October 26 – Superhero Day
Today is Superhero Day! The events of the Superhero Day are as follows:
- Dress like your favorite Superhero. (TA’s don’t forget to turn in your Spirit Contest results to Mr. Guy.)
- Elect your Homecoming Court during your English period.
- Bring in canned food for the George Mason Service Drive, which begins today and lasts until Nov. 25.
- Turn in your Carnation forms to Cheerleaders by today.
- Decorate your class’s hallway! Everyone is welcome at 3:00pm.
RULES FOR HALL DECORATING CONTEST:
- Decorating must be done between 3:00pm and 5:00pm.
- Decorations must be able to STAY UP ALL WEEK, and no one should take any decorations down during the week.
- NO BALLOONS, NO HANGING CREPE PAPER, NOTHING ON THE LIGHTS, NOTHING ON THE FLOOR.
- The decorations will be judged according to SCHOOL SPIRIT (rather than just class spirit), CREATIVITY, ENTHUSIASTIC PARTICIPATION of class members
HALL ASSIGNMENTS:
- Seniors – Main Hallway (Foreign Language)
- Juniors – English/Social Studies Hallway
- Sophomores – Science Hallway
- Freshmen – Gym to Cafeteria Hallway
Tuesday, October 27 – Beach Day
Today is Beach Day! The events of the Beach Day are as follows:
- Act like your going to the beach. Leave your bathing suit at home, but bring your sunglasses, towels, sunscreen, etc.

Elect your Homecoming Court during your English period.
Come out for the Freshman-Sophomore Soccer Game, immediately after school on the Soccer field.
Bring in canned food for the George Mason Service Drive.

Wednesday, October 28 – Opposite Day
Today is Opposite Day! The events of the Opposite Day are as follows:
- Dress oppositely from normal: either dress as a member of the opposite sex, or make a dramatic change in your personal style. (TA’s don’t forget to turn in your Spirit Contest results to Mr. Guy.)
- Come out for the Junior-Senior Girls’ Football Game (with Junior-Senior Males Cheerleading), immediately after school on the Soccer field.
- Rent a Member of the Class of 1999 for Senior Servant Day (tomorrow), during Lunch.
- Vote for your Homecoming King and Queen from the already elected Homecoming Court, during your English class.
- Bring in canned food for the George Mason Service Drive, for which there is an Assembly today.
Thursday, October 29 – Thug Day
Today is Thug Day! The events of the Thug Day are as follows:
- Look like a Thug. (TA’s don’t forget to turn in your Spirit Contest results to Mr. Guy.)
- Today is Senior Servant Day. Use the Senior you rented yesterday to carry your books, buy your lunch, tie your shoes, etc.
- Vote for your Homecoming King and Queen from the already elected Homecoming Court, during your English class if you didn’t do it yesterday.
- Bring in canned food for the George Mason Service Drive.
Friday, October 30 – Red and White Day
Today is Red and White Day! The events of the Red and White Day are as follows:
- Wear Red and White, any Mustang clothing, or your Fall Sport Jersey.

Carnations! Cheerleaders will deliver Carnations to TA.
Pep Rally and Bonfire: "Fright Night at the Pit" Come and support your Spirit at 7:30pm in the Gym.

Saturday, October 31 – Homecoming Day
Today is Homecoming Day! The events of the Homecoming Day are as follows:
- Varsity Football Game! The Mustangs showcase their Invincible Spirit at 1:00pm against Maret
- Presentation of the Homecoming Court, at half-time on the Track.
- Homecoming Dance: "Sweet Dreams" 8-midnight, $7 at the door
