Q: Is it the President's duty to fill a vacated position (such as that of the recording secretary) with another member to complete the balance of the term? I know that this is not the duty of the Vice President, but should another election be held now or at the end of the term of the recording secretary? - Charles M. Phillips, Feb. 10, 2000

A: If your bylaws are silent, the vacancy should be filled by election as soon as possible, after adequate notice of election has been given. See RONR p. 292.
