Parliamentary Procedure Q&A

Q: We have president who has become uncontrolable. He lets male members swear and call women very nasty names, and laughs about it. He is demanding other board members to not do what they are supposed to do in their positions. He demands spur-of-the-moment meetings.

The five other board members would like to know what the procedures are to impeach him. He has only been in office for three weeks. We need to know what to do. - Rikki, Jan. 23, 2000

  1. Check your bylaws for rules for removal from office.
  2. If there are none, or they are inadequate, then read and re-read Section 60 of RONR, "Disciplinary Procedures," especially pages 639-42 and 656-57.
From what you've written, there is no question that this president should be removed from office, and perhaps expelled from membership. Because this is a very detailed process, the brief summary I could give you here would be woefully inadequate; therefore, I strongly recommend studying Section 60 of Robert's Rules of Order Newly Revised.
