Parliamentary Procedure Q&A
Q:
The Personnel Committee at our church will soon be giving their opinion and nominating someone to serve as the new Music Director.
They will probably not be nominating a lady who has filled that position on a temporary basis.
Another member of our church said she would nominate her from the floor.
She was then told she would be called out of order.
Who is correct?

A:
You'll have to check your bylaws and any other adopted policies or rules to see if nominations from the floor are proscribed.
If they are, it would be quite unusual, but the nomination from the floor would be out of order.
[Note: it's the nomination that would be out of order, not the person making the nomination.]
Even if nominations from the floor are proscribed, you may still vote for anyone qualified - nominated or not.
