Parliamentary Procedure Q&A

Q: Can the spouse of an existing Board Member run for an open position on the Board, or does each household, having one vote in elections, preclude this? Wouldn't successful election give too much control to one household? - Anon., Dec. 25, 1999

A: This situation should be addressed in your bylaws. If it's not, then every member is eligible for election to the board. It sounds as if not every member of the household is a member of the association, however; that each household may be represented by one "delegate" at meetings. If that's the case and knowing no more of your bylaws, this parliamentarian opines that only one member of any household may sit on the board.
